Perspectives on the History of Science
Hensikten med symposiet var å bringe fram perspektiver på nyere vitenskapshistorie, slik den drives i Norge og internasjonalt. Vitenskap ("science") omfatter såvel naturvitenskap og matematikk som humaniora og samfunnsvitenskap, medregnet juss og teologi.

Symposiet omfattet også en bokutstilling av nyere norske arbeider innen vitenskapshistorie.
