Whole body gestational donation: Should we use brain dead women as surrogate mothers?

Sammendrag

Womb transplants are a recent innovation in medicine. However, they raise difficult ethical questions because -- unlike other transplants -- they are not life-saving, and the medical risks they entail are significant. Recipients of donated wombs are at risk not only from the surgery itself, but subsequently from pregnancy and birth. I will consider whether pregnancy and birth should be treated as medical problems, and explore a potential solution: the use of brain dead women as surrogates. This may appear unethical; however, the procedures required are commonly used in other areas of medical practice, where they do not raise ethical concerns.
