Water Ethics: Ocean, Freshwater and Coastal Areas

The ocean, freshwater and coastal waters face a series of pressures from climate change, pollution and resource exploitation. Building on the recent UNESCO Declaration on Ethical Principles in relation to Climate Change (2017), COMEST has drafted a report on Water Ethics that underlines the interconnectedness and the dependency between humankind and these global water cycles. The report takes a holistic approach, reviewing the challenges and developing a series of ethical principles and recommendations for water ethics. 

The seminar will bring together international and Norwegian experts, including representatives to UNESCOs International Hydrology Programme (IHP) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC).  The aim of the meeting is to present the draft COMEST report, and to stimulate debate through insights on current scientific, cultural and societal challenges from invited speakers.
