Signature campaign in support of Turkish academics
Researchers in Turkey are in a difficult situation. The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters Human Rights Committee has initiated a signature campaign amongst the members of the Nordic Academies, in order to show support for Turkish academics in their work for academic freedom.
The background for this campaign is the appointment by President Erdogan of a new President of Boğaziçi University without any consultation with the university bodies. The appointment has resulted in protests among students, many of whom have been arrested and charged with disproportionate crimes such as terrorism.
The campaign is now completed, and the collected signatures have been sent to President Erdogan along with this letter on March 25th 2021.
