VISTA

VISTA – a unique collaboration between research and business
VISTA is a basic research programme financed by Equinor, and carried out in close cooperation with the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.
VISTA was founded in 1985, and has an overall vision to stimulate increased basic mathematical and natural science research related to the utilization and management of the nation's petroleum resources.
In addition, VISTA has the following main objectives:
• Support high quality research with special emphasis on developing young talents
• Contribute to our best academic communities engaging in this type of research
• Focus on publishing results in the best international publications
Revisiting strategy
Previously, relevant research groups at Norwegian universities could apply for funding for PhD and Post Doc projects. Currently VISTA is in the process of revising its strategy, including the funding schemes. This work will be finished during the autumn of 2019. In the meantime there will be no new calls for applications.
Since the beginning in 1985 more than 300 million NOK have been given in support to young researchers and VISTA professors.
VISTA finances at any given time about 25 PhD and Post Doc projects in addition to a professorship. Ivar Giæver, who received the Nobel Prize in physics in 1973, is one of the previous VISTA-professors.
